Neuro Linguistic Programming ~ What it is and how it works

We all have our own way of interpreting what goes on in the world.  Two people can have exactly the same experience but their perception and the way they react to that experience will be entirely different, as we are all entirely unique, and each one of us has developed our own “model” dependant upon our experiences and learning’s up until now.

NLP is not only about learning how your own “model of the world” works – what your strategies are for doing, or not doing things, but it is also about being curious as to how your mind and body works. Having understood how your own model works, we can then expand it to give you other and more resourceful ways of dealing with issues.

Our minds are divided between the conscious and the unconscious mind.  The conscious mind can only deal with 7, plus or minus, two things at a time and the rest is allocated to our unconscious mind which remembers not only every experience that we have in our lives but also it will store a blue print of our body as it was in perfect condition and as it is now. It’s so fascinating to think that our mind controls our body and therefore, whatever state we are in now, we can chose to go back to our unconscious mind and undo that state – surely, if our mind got us to where we are now, it can get us back to where we were before we were in this current state – assuming of course, that where we are now is unhelpful and unwanted!

For example, if you are feeling a bit down at the moment, see if you can remember a time when you felt good, you know you have felt that way before therefore, you know you can feel that way again because it is stored in your unconscious mind. Or, you’re feeling miserable, then a friend comes along and makes you laugh – oops what happened to feeling down? You see, your unconscious mind does know how to laugh – you just need to be curious enough to find your way back to that more positive state.

Using specially developed and proven language patterns and processes we can connect directly to your unconscious mind in a way that it understands and then this allows it to respond to things differently – in a way that is much more resourceful.

It can help us to undo those bad practices – whether it is excessive eating, drinking, or any other negative behavior or belief that we have. There are also great NLP processes, which can help you conquer your phobias.

The greatest thing about NLP is that it is YOU making the changes, in a holistic and ecological way.  Ultimately, we are all responsible for our own actions and our own states.

We can choose our state. This is such a great process which can be used positively in so many ways from goal setting, to stress management, giving up unwanted habits, and creating a positive and resourceful behavior and positive belief systems.
