Reiki - What is Reiki & when is it used?

Reiki is an ancient Japanese practice, which was founded by Dr. Mikao Usui and bought to the West by Grand Master Hawayo Takata. The word Reiki comes from “Rei”–which means“God’s Wisdom or Higher Power and Ki–which is Japanese for Life Force Energy. Therefore, Reiki is“Spiritually Guided Life Force”.

Reiki cannot cause any harm. It is given with love and to the greater good. It is a gentle, non-invasive and natural healing method. It harnesses the energy which is around us–in everything we see, the air that we breathe–and channels positive energy to those areas
where it is needed, effectively “kick-starting” our natural healing process. Reiki can help with “chronic illnesses”, fatigue, insomnia, old and persistent injuries, and is a very good form of stress relief.

Reiki & Children’ Guided Meditations

I have successfully worked with young children to overcome their fears, worries and emotional issues by taking them on a short Guided Meditation whilst using Reiki. This can help overcome issues such as lack of confidence, the loss of someone loved, or insecurities, which are often caused by classroom competitiveness. Children are generally more “open” to complementary therapies and tend to respond very well. Guided Meditation Sessions can also be arranged for adults.

Equine Reiki

This is a holistic, non-invasive and gentle way of treating your horse. Some things such as mental traumas, bad manners, head-shy– or just “off-colour”, can’t be treated by traditional methods. Reiki can, however, compliment work that your vet or osteopath is doing.

It can be used as a preventative measure and, at the other end of the scale, is often used as a treatment of last resort.

Physical wounds often heal quicker using Reiki. Horses are incredibly spiritual, sensitive and intuitive creatures and, as such, respond incredibly well to natural healing. As a result of energy being channelled to where it is needed, the healing process – whether physical or emotional, can start naturally.

Often energies become“blocked” and Reiki frees these blockages to allow the energy to flow and healing begin. Three sessions are generally recommended – the first treatment will stir things up, the second helps work them through, with the third settling things down.

The first two sessions are generally one week apart with the third session two weeks thereafter. However, treatment is sometimes like peeling an onion, and if other issues arise, further treatments may be required.
